LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY TECH REPORT 2007
THRESHOLD

Seldom does a university achieve all that we have accomplished this year. Yet, we recognize that much work remains in order for Louisiana Tech to cross the threshold that will take us from a regional powerhouse to a national powerhouse. This Louisiana Tech Report highlights the steppingstones that we believe will elevate us to greater levels of advancement. Now, more than ever, we are relying on our supporters in Louisiana, Washington, D.C. and beyond. This report is a portal to take our strongest allies through a year of Tech excellence. Please know that we could not have accomplished any of these achievements without your support.

The achievements of this university are numerous. Our most significant achievement happened in December 2006 when the Southern Regional Educational Board reclassified Tech as a Doctoral II research university. That classification has lasting effects. It gives us prestige. It opens doors in Washington. It affirms what we at Louisiana Tech have always known: Tech provides first-rate opportunities to our students, faculty and staff, and we are getting better at what we do with each day.

It is with great pride that I tell you about another visit we received this past year. Dr. James Fisher, a nationally renowned university consultant, conducted a thorough analysis of Tech in March. This analysis included 275 interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni and many other members of our Tech family. Fisher applies a critical eye to universities. When he came into my office and said, 'This might be one of the finest universities we've ever been to,' I breathed a sigh of relief. Let's just say that our Fisher report card was glowing. Please indulge me as I share my favorite quote from the report: "Louisiana Tech is an institution of excellence and a model of leadership." Each member of our Tech family worked hard to ensure the stellar ranking of the Fisher report. Such achievements do not come overnight, but are built through years of hard work, shared vision and mutual desire for excellence.

The pages of this report will take you through a year of impressive achievement. Highlights include new strides in innovation and productivity, new coaches and amazing beginnings in new chapters of our history. These beginnings include a new biomedical engineering building, upgraded athletic facilities and the approval for our first research park campus. Never have we at Louisiana Tech been positioned to make a greater difference in our quest for quality. I wish you, our dedicated supporters, the very best in the coming year, and I thank you sincerely for standing with us as we cross this monumental threshold.
