One of the greatest strengths of Louisiana Tech University is that it has never been an institution that has rested on its laurels. Tech has always prided itself on its ability to share a vision for the future with its stakeholders and then commit itself to the work that will see the vision to fruition. It is the essence of synergy when we see our staff, students and alumni communities come together as one to accomplish more than would ever have been possible individually. That is the essence of the Tech Family. During an unprecedented period in our state's history, Louisiana Tech stepped up when our fellow Louisianians were looking for guidance and leadership in a time of chaos and confusion. To us here at Tech, there was nothing extraordinary about our actions: it's simply what we do. Universities, however, cannot survive in a vacuum. The future of our institution depends on effective collaboration and cooperation with members of the local community, educational leaders and our legislators in Baton Rouge and Washington D.C. These leaders have been there to provide us with many of the resources needed to achieve our goals and advance the research and educational vision for Louisiana Tech University. Yet there is still much to do. We look forward to continuing the wonderful relationships we have with these friends of Louisiana Tech. The rest of the nation is quickly learning what those in this region have known for many years: cutting-edge research and academic excellence are synonymous with Louisiana Tech University. We are ranked third in the nation in nanotechnology education by Small Times Magazine, a leading industry publication. The Institute for Micromanufacturing, which at its inception was the only institute of its kind in the nation, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and has played a vital role in research breakthroughs and the development of new technologies. We also produce nearly four times the national average for reports of invention (ROIs) per $10 million of research and development funding. These accomplishments merely scratch the surface of what Tech has done today and what Tech can do tomorrow. As you read the Tech Report, I hope that you will feel the excitement and energy that I have the honor of experiencing daily. The people of Tech -- past and present -- and the collective power they possess help our University realize the vision we have shared together so many times before. Our accomplishments this past year result directly from dedication to our mission and our obligation to preserve the integrity of the Louisiana Tech experience. Our pursuit of excellence is unwavering, our commitment to community is unrivaled and our passion for discovery is unmatched. This is the Power of Tech.
