Corporate Matching Gifts

Wouldn't it be great if your employer made a contribution to Tech every year? Chances are they will& . if you give first. That's because many companies match their employee's gifts to higher education. Some companies don't just match, they give more. Some give a lot more. If your company matches, you have the chance to double your gift (1-to-1 match), triple your gift (2-to-1 match), and even quadruple your gift (3-to-1 match). Many companies also match gifts made by spouses, retirees, and retirees' widows or widowers.

Each year matching gifts provide valuable support to the Tech Annual Fund in the areas of scholarships, academic support, faculty development, computer labs, and library resources. During one fiscal year, the Louisiana Tech Foundation received an average of more than $228,000 in donor-initiated matching gifts from corporations and foundations. In addition to annual support through the Annual Fund, alumni are using matching gifts to establish permanent endowments for Scholarships and Professorships.

With matching gift programs, alumni can establish an endowment and give only a fraction of the total themselves. An endowed Scholarship that will benefit Tech students forever can be established with a gift of at least $10,000. By using corporate matching gifts, the amount actually contributed by an alumnus to establish a $10,000 scholarship would be $5,000 (1-to-1 match), $3,333 (2-to-1 match), or even as little as $2,500 (3-to-1 match). And the amount needed to establish the endowment can be pledged and given over a two or three-year period.

Alumni are also taking advantage of corporate matching funds to create $100,000 Professorships. Professorships are gifts of $60,000 that are matched with $40,000 from the State of Louisiana to create an endowment that supports excellence in teaching and research.

Check to see if your company will match your gift. If so, take advantage of their generosity. All you have to do is fill out a form from your human resource department and return it to the Louisiana Tech University Foundation with your gift.
